Jurmala Water, PIU Jūrmalas ūdens (LV)

Jurmala is situated on the coast of the Gulf of Riga and its wastewaters are directly discharged to the Baltic Sea. Currently the WWTP treats the wastewaters of app. 30 000 inhabitants and achieves the requirements for smaller sized municipalities, but potential to cut down the nutrient load exists. Jurmala Water serves as a good example to the several small and medium sized towns and municipalities in the Baltic Sea region that face the pressure to cut down their nutrient discharges. This is becoming more and more important as the major investments in the larger point sources are implemented.
