The most recent PURE project event has featured two days of site visits to the facilities of St. Petersburg Vodokanal.

On 15th and 16th of May 2012, project partner representatives from the city of Gdańsk, ZWiK Szczecin, EBL Lübeck, Riga Water, GIWK Gdańsk, Kohtla-Järve Biopuhastus, Jurmala Water, HELCOM, JNF and UBC gathered to St. Petersburg. Vodokanal is an Associated Partner of PURE. PURE delegation visited St. Petersburg Vodokanal’s museum “The Universe of Water”, exhibition “The Underground World of St. Petersburg” and two main waste water treatment plants of St. Petersburg: Central WWTP on Bely Island and newly reconstructed South-West WWTP. For PURE project partners it was an excellent opportunity to learn more about the modern technologies and treatment processes that are currently being implemented at the WWTPs of St. Petersburg, and to compare those with the ones used at their own plants. PURE people discussed with the local operators the details of the technological solutions, treatment results and sludge management experiences. The event was very interesting and successful as regards developing of local PURE partners own treatment plant processes.

The excursion was preceded by Administration and Reporting Meeting in Helsinki on 14th of May 2012. The Reporting meeting, held by Hannamaria Yliruusi and Sanna Erkko from UBC, took place in the premises of John Nurminen Foundation. The purpose of the sessions was to instruct partners on final reporting issues and to discuss individual financial and budget matters.
